"Not if you place the terminology in its context. God isn't some impersonal force in Christianity. He speaks, acts, and has revealed Himself. We understand that in personal terms. Using "it" would largely defeat the purpose of that, by preconditioning us not to regard Him that way."
I didn't say god wasn't an impersonal force, but god that doesn't mean god has any gender at all. Another thing is, god doesn't speak or act like a human. It is impossible for god is NOT human. And it is only belief that god revealed "himself" but I feel that seeing a sunrise is god revealing "itself" which imparts no physical gender on a non-physical essence. Using "he" still shows an ignorance to me. I personally think that "it" could have the same meaning, and I sure wish people would regard "it" in a different way. Alot of wars would never have happened.

Just keep in mind that some of us view one particular female as the only example of a perfect human.... Mary, the Mother of God.

I agree that Mary is seen as a perfect human. But that still does not prove that god had any gender or should be seen as having such. I wish I could of met Mary, (if she was what they say she was of course
)

That's not ignorance, but a different set of beliefs on God. Also, I can't think of a single war that's been fought over the issue of whether to call God "he," "she," or "it." They simply haven't happened.

I think religion never should have touched the subject of sex. It has nothing to do with it. Who cares if God is a woman, I would worship him/her the same either way.....for all we know she is a lesbian........what do you think of that?

I disagree..I think SEX is inherant in religion....Even the Atom has male and female parts.....
Look to Hinduism....look everywhere..sex is inherant in God......but this'll be in my "essay" lol "If the doors of perception were cleansed Everything would appear to man as it is... infinite For man has closed himself up Till he sees all things through narrow chinks of his cavern - William Blake" |

Alot of ancient religions believed that the original god was hermaphroditic. And got split into two sexes. So sex (or the act thereof) is done to bring one closer to god, because it is the combining of the two sexes. And the joy brough upon by that act surely gives evidence to that point. But I still believe that no sex should be given to the divine, but we surely can better understand the divine by our own nature, and that involves sex.
