Question Is Religion Like a Toy?

Alright weird analogy, but hear me out. Through my research, all religions seem to be talking about the same thing (at the core). So why all the hatred and wars and such? Perhaps all the differences are just superficial crap that was made up to make their religions "better" than the others.

Take a child for instance. Say he gets a toy for christmas and he goes to school and a kid he hates got the exact same toy. Would the first child go up to the second and say, "We got the same exact toy!!! Let's be friends now!!!"???

NO!!!! He tries to find little things about his toy that makes it different and "BETTER" than the other kids. It could be something as small as the serial number being higher, or the hair being longer, or something like that. But no longer is that a simple difference, it becomes the most important part of the toy because it made it different. Is religion kind of the same? And all of the superficial differences just made up to be the "most important" differences so to make their religion "better?"

Using your same example, the kid would say "I know how to use my toy better than you"..
(no pun intended ) or he may say "you are not worthy to play with that toy.."

Vigil man, you have used great analogy. It is not weird at all. It also earned you the frubal of the S.T.01

A great post

Is Religion Like a Toy?

Yes. But arcade games are more fun.

Not all of them.

A religion is far superior to that of a video game.

But follow your belief, and in either case you will win.

I can certianly see where you are coming from...but to see ones religion as being better than someone elses is pretty bold on someones part....I don't like to view it that way...but some do and it's sad isn't it? I think the key is to try to learn from others religions to reflect better on the one you practice...I've found it pretty amazing that there are those that claim to have the 'right' religion. I don't think God wants us to do the judging on those things...that's His job.

I liked your analogy though...it does sort of portray how some are...LOL Good point of view.

This analogy made me wonder if we're all seeing and liking different parts of the same thing. Like a toy car--one person likes the wheels best, another likes the paint best, another likes the shape best... and so on and so forth.

Indeed. So basically, all we are fighting over are studid trivialities that we first made up int the past because even mature adults act like little immature children.

MV,

Got it read now. Before I try my "dispute," which we both knew would come, could you define what the "core" is? IMO, all religions do not have the same core, and they result in rather different applications of basic human sentiments like love (not a religious entity in and of itself). I really don't think everything can be collapsed into one neat little basket like that.

The core my friend is the unknown (god, afterlife, morals, etc..). Every religion has a different idea of what the unknown is. And the different applications you speak of are only the differences that we invent to make our religion "better". The best part is, everything can be collapsed into a neat little basket. But only if people put their stupid differences aside and realize that.
