The government can decide what stores are open on what days, i.e. liquor stores. It can step in in religious conflict. It has guidelines for religion in school and other public places. Can it eventually prohibit religion altoghether?

No.
The bill of rights says... "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;...."

It sure makes you wonder when on a local level in Philidelphia 4 christians are facing 47 years in prison and $90,000.00 in fines for preaching the gospel on a public sidewalk. Where does the First Ammendment right come into play in this inncident? They were charged with 8 crimes, including 3 felonies. This was reported by One Million Moms.com...Bill O'Reilly reported on the situation on Fox News Channel.
Makes you wonder just what goes on on the streets of the good old U.S.of A. doesn't it? I don't agree with preaching on the streets but isn't that a form of government involvment? |

It doesn`t sound right and should be no problem to defeat in court if the sources I`ve found are correct. However I did find that they were charged with the following.. Criminal Conspiracy, felony Possession of Instruments of Crime, misdemeanor Reckless Endangerment of Another Person, misdemeanor Ethnic Intimidation, felony Riot, felony Failure to Disperse, misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct, misdemeanor Obstructing Highways, misdemeanor It would appear they were blocking the right of way into a private business. The Condom Kingdom ![]() Protesting homosexuals. If I could get a good source for what they actually did or said I could perhaps understand it better. Please be advised all the info I posted here came from some really extreme militant Christian sites vehemently opposed to homosexuality.

Actually I just found a video of the whole episode.
http://www.afa.net/clp/videos/philly11.wmv These Christians went specifically to a gay event in downtown Philly to disrupt the event. The people who organized the event were ready with their own system for keeping them from doing so. In the process the Christians were obstructing business in the booths leased for the event and disregarded a direct police order to move away from the event. No sympathy here.

In answer to the original question "Can the US Government prohibit religion?" - the answer is YES - but it would require a constitutional amendment.
Then, it would require the eradication of any person with half a brain that couldn't afford to emigrate from the country. TVOR
