Does politics destroy spirituality? Are those churches that increasingly involve themselves in politics in danger of distracting believers from their spirituality, or even in danger of destroying the spirituality of believers? Can one be both political and spiritual at the same time? What do you think?

Politics is a gutter sport. It's made of deals and compromises. I can not imagine a healthy spirituality in a political setting.

I wonder if the tendency of some churches to become heavily involved in politics isn't escapism? We live in an age of many tough challenges. For instance, environmental degradation challenges our consumer way of life. One way to escape from those tough challenges is to focus on something else. For instance: the politics of homosexuality.

Is politics escapism for some churches?

I think the only time when religion and politics intermix is when people of one group see it as an asset to volly for the group they are placing themselves in company with. I see it as a user sport...I'll use this religion to go further...or I'll use this President to get our message further...A user deal...no believer gets spiritually distracted when it comes from the pulpit that we should swing our vote(voice) in this direction or that.It's just making a statement. That's my opinion as I see it...yours could be different.

From what I heard, there is also a lot of internal politics going on in most churches--members fighting each other. In my job, I am involved with proofreading letters and documents for the churches my two bosses belong to. Sometimes the conflict in the churches is quite fierce.
