I didn't say it was necessarily you. That was the argument being presented here, though, which is where our debate came from.

Maybe I have been taught it wrong, but when i learnt the big bang, it was the theory for the very beginning. ie nothing going into something. In fact it must be because the big bang created (supposedly) the universe, the universe is constantly expanding into nothingness therefore big bang = nothing to something. I have just never agreed with it and probably never will!
The Big Bang theory only claims that what we know as the universe now came from an extremely condensed tiny ball of matter that exploded. As far as I know, it makes no claim about where that tiny ball of matter came from. There are even some theories that go along with the BB theory that suggest that it was not the first Big Bang there was, as in there was a universe before which shrunk up into the tiny ball, and our universe might meet the same fate. Anyway, the point is that even the BB theory doesn't imply that particles are necessarily not eternal.

It may sound weird to have an age for the Universe. But it is just our mental conditioning that makes it so, just as it was once unconceivable that Earth did not have some sort of solid surface to sustain it.

Is that right? That would mean that the universe is expanding at more than three times the speed of light, wouldn't it?

I am no physicist, but it is premature to assume that the Universe expanded from "nothing" linearly. For all we know the Big Bang may somehow have occupied an enormous initial area of space.

As for if that is right... who knows?

Since nobody knows anything for sure, it means the Creationists might have a chance after all.

No, it doesn't. Stop deluding yourself, will ya?

You are doing a disservice to your faith by presenting it in such a silly light.

Gee. Is hoping for a free-for-all the best approach you can manage to your own religious practice?

I wouldn't call them "completely different"; rather, I'd say they're complimentary and properly viewed, dovetail very nicely! :-)

Best regards,
