Or atleast qualified.
Absolutely. By religious I am not referring to all religions. Just the majority religion and their majority beliefs. (From my point of view) In the USA thats the protestants and roman catholics. (Catholics in general I would guess) Thats sourced by the CIA fact book and looks about right in my town, where Im from. Not all religions. I guess I didnt qualify it because most people think I am arguing by default against the Mormons and Yoists. Two religions that I are so similar it may only be the name that seperates them. (haha... just kidding, laugh... the economy is gone, laugh!)

I have tried to be more clear in my classification. I am moved to see so many disagree with the bulleted points but then Palin speaks again... ahh well. ![]()

Religion a means to control the masses?
I think it would be good to separate the church from religion.... Religion is just fine, it is some of the church organizations that are power hungry etc...

While some believe that the masses of religious centres cause people to act in a certain way, others says the opposite: that the masses who wish to act in a certain way come together to form religious centers.
So is religion a means to control the masses? Or are the masses who want to control united by religion? And then we have to ask ourselves...is it the masses' fist instinct to want to get up on a sunday morning and go to church, to give up binge drinking, unsolicited sex and stealing and lying? If they WANT to give it up, all those that feel the same way will be united by their common goal. Now i dont see how the masses feel like giving up that which theyd rather like to keep. So im afraid if religion is controlling the massas, it can only mean that the massas want to get on the straight and narrow...and that is just not true. However...having said that...false religion is full of people who unite not because religion controls them, but because they find some form of control in religion. Heneni |

Religions all have some form of moral code that they expect their devout adherents to follow. Whether it be codified in a religious text such as the Bible, Torah, Koran, Buddhist sutras or any other text, the religion expects you to follow what is laid down in these books as moral law. Now, is there any way to enforce this moral law? No, there is not, which is why theists still murder, rape and steal as non-theists do, but with one difference; theists believe in a form of punishment if they do not follow their moral codes. For Christians, if you don't follow their moral code you go to the fiery pit of Hell, separated for eternity |
