Honestly, I don't know anyone who even likes his MIL, much want to sleep with her. I suppose it isn't too strange that if a man was attracted to a daughter would be attracted to her mother as well- But it seems strange to me. But then I'm only human.

We must remember back then marriages were set up so older men about the age of the mother often were married to the younger girl so maybe Moses realized the problem that might develope and wanted to stop it from happening. I have seen some darn good looking mother/daughters even today. arlan

Did you know that the Law says the a man who dresses in women's clothing and a woman dressing in men's clothing are supposed to be put to death, too?
It also says not to sleep with your parents, step-parents, brothers & sisters, Aunts & uncles, and so on?
It also tells you how to sacrifice your animals on the alter.

I think that people are forgetting that the OT said that it is a duty for one brother to marry his sister-in-law (widow), if the other brother died before he had any son. This is just to continue the late 1st brother's line.

That's what happened with Judah's sons. Onan was killed by God, when Onan refused to put his seed in Tamar. In the end, it was father-in-law (Judah) had performed this duty. Judah and Tamar had twins, but the odd thing is that these children were considered Judah's children and not Er's, whenever it list the genealogy.

It was later made into law, by Moses.

The Israelites/Jews have odd law and custom.

It is even odder that there would be a law about sleeping with mother-in-law.

Yes, yes, and yes, those are all down on the paper but only as a deterrant for the masses who can't guide their intuition according to Ethics. But there is no record that one was executed for crossdressing, or sleeping with his or her immediate relative. About the sacrifices, it's besides the point in this context.
