Christian Jihad? (Jesus, church, bible, Israel, protestant)

Some people have said that Christians have perpetrated as many holy wars as the rest of them. Is this true?

The Crusades, is an example (some) scholars have lain at the feet of Christians.

Here's a verse or two, a bible basher shared with me;

From the OT:

1 Samuel 15:
2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: `I will punish the Amalekites for what
they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt.
3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to
them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants,
cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys."

Hosea 13:
16 The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled
against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed
to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open."

The second one I find particularly repulsive.

From the NT:

"And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip,
and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. Then said he unto them,
But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he
that hath no SWORD, let him sell his garment, and buy one." [Luke 22:35-36]

"...Lord, behold, here are two SWORDS. And he said unto them, It is enough."
[Luke 22:38]

As he pointed out, two swords are enough for what? Cutting cake?

I had always thought Jesus a pacifist with his turn the other cheekiness. But here he is encouraging people to sell their clothes to buy swords.

What say ye Christians? Is it just poor interpretation or something?

To be honest, I don't have much basis for comparison....I haven't studied the wars of Islam very much, for example. But I did take European history in high school, and a whole heck of a lot of wars were fought in the name of Christ (Christendom, the Church, etc).

Bosnia, Ireland, Iraq (the evil empire) - definetly religious wars started by Christianity.

My Irish history isn't perfect, but I'm sure it was more to do with politics, i.e. Britain holding down Ireland and stealing parts of the country, corrupting, bribing, and intimidating the Irish parliment.

Catholic and Protestant came into it later I believe.

I believe it was the Protestant Organgemen of Northern Ireland who did fairly well during the potato famine that rocked the Catholic Irish. But, of course, it was politics and largely based on the religion IMO
