So tell me what kingdom was set up during the reign of the Roman Empire by God that will never be destroyed. I believe it is the Kingdom of God set up by Jesus (Of which I am a loyal subject) and rules in the hearts of millions of people in every country of the world.
Footnote to 2:40 The Roman Empire
Footnote to 2:41 The lands of the Roman empire came to be dominated by Edom and Ishmael, represented by Christianity and Islam. Both - one as strong as Iron, the other as weak as pottery - comprise the latter day "fourth kingdom".

We are still, in a manner of speaking, in the reign of the Roman Empire (Christianity). The Messiah the Jews have been waiting for will establish the everlasting kingdom spoken of in verse 44. It hasn't happened yet.

I've read that some people believe Jesus was the Moshiach ben Yosef and so didn't have to fulfil all the prophecies because the Moshiach ben David will fulfil those...

A big problem with that is that the books of the "new testament" spend an awful lot of time emphasizing that Jesus is a son of David.

Nowhere is it written that Moshiach ben David will come twice.

Some believe that the child born to david and bathsheba was a prototype of jesus....born to die for the sin that his father commited with bathsheba. He died because david allowed his enemies to show contempt for the lord.

2 Samuel 2:14

But because by doing this you have made the enemies of the LORD show utter contempt, the son born to you will die."

This is what jesus says about himself:

Rev 22:16 I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star."

Look what david says about being blessed if god does not hold your sins against you..

Romans 4:6

David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:

7"Blessed are they
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
8Blessed is the man
whose sin the Lord will never count against him."

God showed david what was to come in the future. And god shared I believe the good news of the gospel with david, but david did not only know the meaning of this gospel by mere knowledge of it, but he experienced what i believe should be the proper reaction of any christian who appropriates the death of jesus christ as forgiveness of sin...he felt remorse and he knew that it would cost god dearly...he knew what it meant when god says he GAVE his only begotten son for saving the lives of others.

I believe that David more than anybody else...knew what the mystery of salvation was all about.

It does not seem right that david should have gone 'free' but the child had to die. Neither does it seem fair that any of us should live, but christ die.

Here is what paul says about davids son and jesus:

Romans 1:2the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, 4and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

I know that many of you dont believe what paul had to say...but to me its reasonable to believe that the son born to david and bathsheba was jesus, and that he did indeed return.

It is also interesting that jesus was said to have learnt obedience through the things that he suffered. Most people think that jesus was born with this ability to obey his father at all costs and that this came naturally to him even though he was born in the flesh, which would naturally oppose god. But i dont think so...i think jesus made a few appearances all through history...but when he was ready...and when the time was right...he was ready to save mankind.

Just a thought...ill leave it there.

That had nothing to do with what I said... but I guess if it made you happy to go ahead and say what you said... there's nothing wrong with being happy.

Actually, your idea is a complete misreading of this verse.

The baby didn't die because David allowed HIS ENEMIES to show contempt for the Lord. The baby died because DAVID showed contempt for the Lord by not waiting for Uri's death to come naturally (he was destined to marry Batsheva, but killing her husband was not the way to go about it).

The baby that died isn't symbolic of anything but David's sin. David prayed very hard for the baby to live. And then the baby died.

God forgave David after the death of the baby, but the death of the baby is only one of many grievances that afflicted David from that time until his death, and most of his troubles he related back to his sin of taking Batsheva before he was supposed to.

You don't want to compare Jesus to that baby, or you will be saying that Jesus is only one of many horrific events to plague people who otherwise sinned, and that praying on his behalf only sponsors more trouble.

I REALLY don't think that is where you intend to take this.
