Is it derogatory to feel as though you are better than someone when you have a degree with a high salary, than some bafoon from school who wasted his time and is now a brick layer?

No, that's elitist.

A lot of Christians begin to think that because they study or attend church every time the door is open that it some how gives them some authority to judge or condemn others. They seem to think that they have some superior knowledge that others don't possess. They don't realize that they themselves are doing harm to the same faith that they are trying to follow. They have become self-righteous, holy and are better than the average Christian, because they feel like they are on some type of higher realm in spiritual matters.
I do not condemn anyone, that is not my purpose. I am willing to listen to others with an open mind and a loving heart. I feel that if I constantly tell you how wrong you are or how you are going to hell, I have defeated my purpose and turned you off to religion. People should see that there is a difference in my life without me having to go around telling you "I'm a Christian" I'm not looking down my nose at anyone or their lifestyle. I am not a judge or the jury. self-righteousness gets me no where. It's faith, love and the grace of God that sustains me.
