Challenge: Quranic Laws Are Still Universal

Assalamualaikum.

I am going to present just one example. Please let me know if you can improve the following. Deliberating on forgiveness and revenge the Quran's teaching is that (taken from SOME DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF ISLAM):

"Remember that the recompense of an injury is an injury the like thereof; but whoso forgives and thereby brings about a reformation, his reward is with Allah. Surely, Allah loves not wrongdoers" [Quran 42:41]

Islam thus combines the best features of both the earlier teachings (of Judaism and Christianity) with the vital addition that forgiveness is commended provided it is likely to result in an improvement and in the correction of the defaulter, that being the real objective. If not, then punishment is held to be necessary, but not exceeding the degree to which one is wronged.

So how does this relate to the Islamic custom of beheading "wrongdoers" and amputating the hands of the thief? One might conclude that such acts are a tiny bit of an over-reaction in most cases. Also: How does this equate with killing the apostate, killing homosexuals or imprisoning rape victums?

If I have time later, I will rewrite the statement above to lend it some coherency, 'till then I am off to go work in the gardens.

While it is Biblical that one should repent of all wrong doing, it is also Biblical that Jesus forgave sins, something that God can only accomplish, by His blood that He shed on the cross and not by our deeds or our repentance.

That teaching isn't "universal" at all as "wrongness" is almost always going to be a product of perspective. You just end up with two people (or worse, groups of people) trading acts of revenge, each act viewed both as "just" and "wrong" depending on the side from which you look at it.

Please distinguish between the practice of Muslims today and the laws of Islam. Islamic laws are often criticized for being unapplicable any more.
All punishments you have stated above are not islamic with the exception of cutting the hands of a theif. I have discussed Apostasy in the same-faith forum and I believe my Quranic references were so conclusive the thread didn't last more than two pages. Have a look at it and take it as an example of the HUGE difference between teachings of mainstream Islam and Quranic teachings.

To me it seems as though it is a universal law that has been coined by Islam. Im pretty sure you could find similiar readings in other bibles.
This is basic common sense, if someone does wrong they are punished, so i don't really see how it is so uniquw to Islam at all.
Do prisons not to some extent push this law, punish and learn?
