Mormon missionary excommunicated over calendar.

Be aware when discussing this that you will likely only ever hear his side of this story. The LDS church keeps these councils confidential. Hardy can talk to the press if he likes, which apparently he has, but the representatives of the church will not discuss details.

Suffice it to say that Hardy has been inactive for 6 years and it is very likely that there are concerns other than the calendar. Also, some of the models have been brought before disciplinary councils but none have had any action taken against them. These councils are done at the local (stake) level, FWIW.

So perhaps the calender isn't the only reason he was excommunicated. But it appears from this article that it had something to do with the decision. What's wrong with the calender?

your definition of excommunication is different than ours.

your definition is some sort of condemnation.

ours is in fact a release of covenants making repentace easier. Excommunicated members can still attend church and those who are repentant are welcomed back with full fellowship. In fact, for us, allowing a member to participate in temple attendance or taking the sacrament unworthily is allowing them to bring condemnation unto themselves.

Provacativeness is not the message we want to send at all to anyone who wants to learn more about the church.

The reason he was excommunicated was because he was effectively selling "sex appeal" to try and get people interested in the church. That is immoral according to our standards, so i can understand the descision.

Also there was mroe than likely more to the story as to WHY he was excommunicated. It could be anything in his life that is personal that niether he or the church will share with the public. He is making it out to be as if that was the only reason. The creator of this calendar was not even an active member of the church. He was inactive since 2001.

there are plenty of other calendars that do not spread the wrogn message about our church.

I hope he never makes one.... I hope the female missionaries have much better things to do with thier time than to pose for this sleaze.

Well, let's put it this way... I VERY strongly doubt that the calendar was the only issue. The Church isn't going to excommunicate somebody over a calendar. The fact that none of the men who posed for it have been excommunicated is evidence that I know what I'm talking about. Church officials never release the details of disciplinary councils, so what you're going to get in any news article is one side of the story. You might get the truth, but you're not going to get the whole truth.
