I'm going to start off with an LDS scripture.
Alma 30: Quote:
These are all physical laws in which we are merely the discoverers of. Since there is a law that proves there is no such thing as perpetual motion, how do you think that the universe even exists? how does it continue as one eternal round? even with the idea of the Big bang theory and evolution, matter is impossible to destroy, and because there is no such thing as perpetual motion, what keeps it all moving? what do you think causes it all to be organized this way?

What is the closed system you refer to? Or do you claim that the Universe is a closed system? If so, why?

I don't think sticking a supernatural god into the equation solves any questions without raising more questions.

I agree. As an explanatory hypothesis, it creates more problems than it solves.

But what if "God" is the universe, and you actually are a part of that... then in some sense what you do is done by the universe.

It is the task of philosophy to bring to light the link between reason and religion; that the God of religion is the very Ground that establishes and guarantees the intelligibility and reasonableness of the natural order of things upon which scientists confidently depend. Yet, we should careful not to be taken prisoner by the power of ideas, for when theology masters religion, religion dies. “Theology constitutes the religious effort to define, clarify, expound, and justify the experiential claims of religion, which, in the last analysis, can be validated only by living faith. ...Reason introduces man to the world of facts, to things; wisdom introduces him to a world of truth, to relationships; faith initiates him into a world of divinity, spiritual experience.” (UB) I think that as a Mormon you will not disagree. ![]() |

Want to answer a few questions, or is it easier to simply stay in character and say, "Not this, not that" without offering a better hypothesis? |
