Should Liberal Christians Leave Organized Religion?

COULTER: God says, "Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It's yours."
FENN: Terrific. We're Americans, so we should consume as much of the earth's resources...
COULTER: Yes! Yes.
FENN: ... as fast as we possibly can.
COULTER: As opposed to living like the Indians.

One has to wonder if she's not pandering here just to be sensational, get her name in the press, and make more $$$?

Here's what Sallie McFague says in answer to spiritual imperialism, in her book, Models of God, Theology for an Ecological, Nuclear Age:

"The second image I would like to evoke comes from Jonathan Schell's book The Fate of the Earth. In this passage he speaks of extinction -- the power to extinguish ourselves and perhaps all life -- that is the consequence of nuclear knowledge...
"We have never before been in the position of potential 'uncreators' of life, of being able to prohibit birth, but it is precisely imagining the extent of this power and feeling deeply what it means to live in a world where this is possible that is part of the new sensibility required for Christian theology." (Pg. 5) (She suggests a "new theology" that is rooted in nurture and care, instead of in imperialism and conquest.)

One might suggest that we take this Coulter ding-dong with a grain of salt. Watch her closely, to keep her from harming herself and others, but not to take her drivel too seriously.

Like any cancer, she needs to be exposed for what she is, WITHOUT adding to her notoriety or support.

Odd that her book is a "New York Times #1 Bestseller" and McFague's book -- which makes a whole lot more sense -- is not. It just could be that marketing is at the heart of this book's success, and not "Biblical truth."

I am certain that every Republi-fascist has bought her book. I am not sure that they can read it, but I am certain that they bought it.
