But for me?..Its too complicated..I'm a simple gal..I wouldnt fit in..And frankly? Its too conservative for me..For instance I was told when I went to my nieces 1st comminion that I could not "recieve" communion when it was offered to the rest of the church..Because I wasnt Catholic..I personally think thats too rigid..I mean I could never tell someone not to recieve the body and the blood in worship of Jesus..I dont care who they are or where they came from..

In other words I would not do Catholisism justce...Im too much of a rebel unfortunately..

I know what you're trying to say. The difference for me is that I don't claim to know the "truth". I don't claim my beliefs as the one and only truth. I fully admit that I don't understand everything, and that others have some great insight into things that could be helpful to me. I'm not a Catholic because I disagree with the way they see certain things, but who am I to judge whether or not they have the truth?

Please don't take my post as arrogant. It wasn't meant to be. Please help me to understand here; my questions are sincere.
As a Christian, do you believe that Christianity is true? Do you feel that non-Christianity, is not completely true? If so, what did I say wrong in my last post? I'm really not trying to offend, but it seems to come across offensive, and I'm trying to understand why.

No not in your last post you did not come across as arrogant to me..It was the orignal comment about the Catholics that I percieved as slightly arrogant..That is only my perception it does not make it true..And I belelieve you that you did not intend to come across that way..

And as a Christian I blelieve Christianity is true to ME.I blelieve Im supposed to keep my eyes on Jesus...I do not need to tell other people I am right and they are wrong if they dont believe that for themselves..and I do not need them to tell me Im wrong and they are right and I should believe what they do..

And besides Catholics are Christians...so are LDS...I dont think Jesus would be happy with the fighting about the rules and rituals and regulations..over who had the best "layout"..Jesus was disgusted with the Pharisees remember?..

It just seems to me that we all follow what we follow because we feel there is more truth to it. Somewhere down the line we reject the teachings of other religions. Because despite how complicated or conservative you view Catholicism, if you found it to be most true, then you'd follow it nonetheless.

It didn't seem that Starfish was saying that Mormonism is the one and only truth either. Rather, it seemed that (s)he was conveying how they take Mormonism as most true, and that at some point the other religions falter or are incomplete.

Doesn't everyone feel this way about what they follow?

I can see how it is condescending to make an outright statement like the one in question. If I were so interested, I would want to explore that statement and see if the Mormon could back up what they say with some common ground reasoning (rather than merely plotting one holy book against another.)

For me it has nothing to do with more true or less true..What is true for them may not be true for me..that doesnt make my truth more or less.Different? Yes...I respect those differences and I hope to be respected back..Besides..it shouldnt be "them or me"..We are all brothers and sisters...

Its a personal truth..

I dont care to complicate my truth by worrying if I can do anything better than you can..Especially a lot of what we are talking about here are nit picin details.

Thanks. I think a lot of you, and try SO HARD to respect others beliefs.

Since this thread is about LDS, I'll take another stab at explaining where we're coming from. We do believe that Christ organized a specific religion and that there is one "straight and narrow" path back to him. We don't claim responsibility for that path, nor any credit for it. We simply feel we've found it. It isn't ours, but we feel the need to share it with the world under commandment from God.

We see good and truth in all religions. We see wonderful people in all religions. We see sincerity, honesty, AND GOD in all religions. As I understand it, many people, such as yourself, believe there is no one way to Christ and/or God, but whatever way works for the individual is right, even if that way doesn't include Christ at all. This is a very open, generous, and all-inclusive view. But we feel it isn't what Christ taught. So we invite the world to see what we've found, and if you decide it isn't for you, that's fine. We don't think any less of you, nor feel any better than you.

IOW we do feel this religion is God's one true religion. There just is no way to say that w/o sounding arrogant, I guess. But truly, we don't mean to be arrogant. Not at all.

...they can understand that a Catholic just hasn't found the truth yet but are trying to find it at their pace...
This didn't sit well with me either, I would modify this previous statement as follows.

...they understand that Catholicism teaches many of Christ's true teachings, yet do not have the fullness of Christ's gospel...

We must proclaim the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, to do otherwise would be against what Christ has commanded us to do.

My wife was raised Catholic and is now an active LDS member. She was raised Catholic for over 20 years and she's been an LDS member for over 20 years now.

There is great stuff found in the Catholic church, I've attended Mass and have felt the spirit of Christ in it. Christ's name is spoken repeatedly throughout their services. Their services are very Christ centered and reverent.

Katz may have been in a hurry when she wrote that opening statement. There is definitely the suggestion though that she believes Catholicism has no truth. Maybe she needs to modify her opening post, because I don't think she really feels that way.
