+Xausted needs to realize that you're pointing up what you see as an internal inconsistency for those who hold faith with the god described in the bible. On the one hand, such people believe their god is good, but you're pointing out how that characterization isn't consistent with what we see that god doing in the bible. By complaining that you're being disingenuous, +Xausted is avoiding the argument.

I suggest you look up the module guide for universities in England to find out what we actually study, and not what you presume we do. And your tone is not open for an adult, rational discussion, so I think I will leave this thread alone for a bit until you can maybe stop attacking people, when so ill informed.

This is an image of god created by ancient people. Humans wrote the Bible. It isn't surprising that the darker side of our nature shows up in it, especially in ancient texts. I look to the Bible for truth and insight, not ultimate truth. I do not believe in such a god.

I'm as confused as the next guy about God's apparent command to wipe out whole cultures, but we have to admit that, just as we are free to dispose of a colony of rats that are destroying our garden, God is free to destroy a culture that is destroying his creation. I don't suggest that this fully explains things (or justifies them, to use your term), but it's certainly part of it.

Comparing the murder of infants to a human killing rats destroying a garden strikes me as a bit insensitive to the value of life. If God is omnipotent, why not spare the innocent this suffering?
