I don't know how things work in the US, but up here, any time you might need to swear an oath for legal reasons, you have the option to give an affirmation (not on any book, but still binding under penalty of perjury) rather than an oath.

Same here in the States, penguin. The Bible thing is mostly for show. The court just wants a public affirmation that you're going to tell the truth.
Of course, if you're being tried in the Bible Belt and forgo the Book for a simple promise that you'll tell the truth, it might look a little suspicious to the pious onlookers. |

As far as Adam and Eve's children: You forgot about Seth (Genesis 4:25), and the other sons and daughters (Genesis 4:26). It would seem that Cain was afraid that one of his siblings, nieces, or nephews would kill him for what he had done. |

The Bible takes a life time of study to even begin to understand fully. Most aren't willing to put in the time and effort. But the pursuit is worth it. One of the biggest lessons is that we know very little. Someone out there knows more that we do. Someone out there knows better than we do.
Like teenagers who think they know more than their parents; then they grow up and realize differently. |

![]() I've been a Christian for 30 years and didn't actually read the entire bible until a couple of years ago. I even read through all the "begats". I learned so much and can't believe I waited so long to read it. Like most Christians I just skimmed through the bible looking for stuff that suited my needs at the time, and I just assumed when someone said, "The bible says..." that they were correct. I've learned to look it up myself, and most of the time "The bible says..." something completely different than what I was told. |

I agree with some who say that most Christians don't really know the Bible and the people who discredit it, know it the least. I've studied it my whole life, and still am just at the surface.

AS to who has and has not read the book in North America where most of our needs are conveniently met there are many who have not read the whole book or know why they believe as they do. However as you move into persecuted nations all over the world the opposite applies where they most assuredly have read the entire book and know large portions of it by heart.
