Which one? The Christian one, the Nordic one, the Mayan one..... the are a lot more. Though I am an Eclectic Pagan I am kind of looking forward to Ragnarök out of all of them.

At this point in time, it seems relatively likely that at some point, the human race will become exist. I think we should realise this and do more to ensure our long term survival. I think that notions of a religious apocalypse severely hamper such efforts.

From a non-religious viewpoint I think mankind could be well on the way ot an apocalypse of sorts, of our own making. From global warming, to global pollution, to destruction of habitats, we are decimating other species at a record pace, which in turn insures our own demise if we don't halt this destructive trend. Whether we have the wherewhitall to do this is yet to be determined, it will take intelligence, political will, and worldwide cooperation to pull it off.

Well, from a religious perspective I know of very few religions who don't have an apocalypse story. So, no, not bunk there. From a scientific perspective I know of very few people who believe the world won't eventually end. So, no, not bunk there either. As for the immediacy of any of these scenarios, I would say bunk. We've been doing pretty good so far. I don't think a few more millennia are too much to ask.
