pluralistic? Saying there are many 'gods' does not mean we consider the God with whom we are concerned to be pluralistic.

Thanks. I don't usually see much of this "true church" stuff around here from Mormons. I can see why that would add to the enmity.

Quote:
In essence, we believe in an afterlife "funnel" system in which people can have the correct ordinances and such done for them pretty much regardless of how they approach it. It would take quite a lot of effort to end up in a position where you cannot be funneled. Pretty much everyone will end up in one of the degrees of heaven. Resultantly, screaming out about being the one true church isn't that productive on an eternal scale. |

Fundamentalism can't survive without an enemy. You can't be saved unless somebody else is damned; you can't be chosen unless somebody else is rejected. It doesn't matter whether you're going after the Catholics, or the Muslims, or the homosexuals, or the Mormons -- as long as you're going after somebody.
Look out! The religious pluralistic god is hiding in your closet! No! He's under your bed! AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

That's probably because we see all religions -- Christian and non-Christian -- as containing a great deal of truth. Because we believe that Jesus Christ actually did create an institutional Church during His ministry and that he left it in the hands of personally appointed individuals through whom He intended to maintain contact after His Ascension, we believe that God-given authority to act in His name was an essential component of His original Church and must be an essential component of His Church today. For us, it is not a matter of "we're right and everybody else is wrong." It's a matter of our believing that we have something of value that sincere people everywhere would benefit from having. In a statement made to people who hear our message, one of our Apostles once said, "Hold fast to all that you know to be true and add to that the fulness of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Put [our message] to the ultimate test: Ask God. Listen for His answer with your heart, then respond to what you feel." I'm sure that, as a Mormon, I am coming from a perspective that non-Mormons can't relate to, but I'm seriously at a loss as to why all the antagonism.

I think it has to do with property rights over the word "Christ."

Reminds me of that song "Zombie" by the Cranberries for some reason . . .
