What I know off the top of my head was what I learned while writing a paper for sociology class on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. My perspective might be slightly skewed by the fact that my paper was mostly about the history and conflict and only touched on religion here and there. The prophet Mohamed founded the religion and recited the Quran. The Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem is the spot where Mohamed ascended into heaven, and by some sort of coincidence, happens to be right on top of the ruins of the temple of Solomon. As for the religious beliefs of Islam, I haven't studied it. It's considered one of the Abrahamic religions, so I assume you have something similar to the Old Testament of the Bible. I know that most Muslims around the world don't have aspirations of martyrdom, due to the fact that so few of them actually do it.

so I heard it's not a new religion but a reminder of an old religion (christianity) and God resent it cos Christians had gone wrong or such. that's the only reason i'd consider this as the only religion to convert to if youre christian and want to still believe in god. so islam came after christinanity right? then we're all supposed to be following it, i guess if it can be proved that the book muslim people follow was the latest book God sent then that's the religion if you actually believe in God.

yeah but i can't go with mormonism cos if you read more into it, it's not so related to christianity. it's more of a seperate religion while islam's supposed to be a reminder of the old religion? i don't trust joseph smith at all...the religion sprung up in the 1800s and the guy pretty much took ideas from other religions being formed in areas/farms around him. i see it as a bit of a cult. guess i'll just have to speak to a muslim.
