i think Athiest look for Facts and evidence, which is exactly what we as LDS do, but we accept certain things such as "confirmation of the spirit" to be evidence and proof. while athiests do not.

Hmm, I must've had it confused with something else. But it was the early catholic church who compiled the bible and decided which gospels and scriptures were and weren't canonical, wasn't it?

If memory serves it was still a council led by the Catholic church that decided which books were or were not to be canonised, yes.

Perhaps that is where the distinction lies: the factual internal consistency of a faith is something theist and atheist alike can appreciate, but an atheist can't consider that as truth because it is essentially a suspended structure without foundation. The faithful find that grounding through faith and prayer and spiritual confirmation. |

I took that "internal consistency" for granted, until I discovered the massive inconsistency in mainstream Christianity. It blew me away. Very few religions believing the same thing, all the while calling themselves and each other Christian, and feeling the inconsistencies didn't matter. Be baptized or not? Only Christians are saved, or not? Works count, or they don't? I am so grateful for our "consistency". I am grateful that I can move anywhere in the world and find the gospel is the same. I am grateful that we have a prophet who helps keep us centered and uniform in the truth. Soooo grateful. |

Did you know that the scientist who invented it died a few weeks ago at the age of 102?
