Over here, its a bit stupid ( i can only speak for my area) its awfully christian for a athiest area.
Out of a 100 people in my area, i would guess about 50 people are regular church-goers. I hate the system. Its so unfair. I have spent about......10 years in school doing christianity, and the UK is a multi-cultural nation. We have spent one year on islam, about a week on buddhism and a year in sikhism (when i was 7!) I think we should spend, at the most, two years on christianity, is it SO complicated that wee need 10 years on it? COuld children not benefit from learning about something new, and mayeb a religion which shows tolerance??? Well, they say they are multi-cultural, i have learned that they are stupid and racist people. As i said before, this works for London only.

They are not allowed to teach religion in the schools in California, USA. When I was in High School about a 100 years ago, we had a study of all the major religions:Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism. We also went into some other more minor religions. I don't think they went into Islam, although it,too is a major religion.

The religious education system here(Louisville, Kentucky USA), is far superior to the state one...

We learned about Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Judaism, Buddhism and Aborigininal(sp?) beliefs. We also studied the life of Mother Teresa, Dahlia Lama(sp?) and Martian Luther King However I stopped doing RME(Religious and Moral Education) at 13 and focused on more science based courses.

All schools around here are Catholic, my 7 year old daughters class will focus next year on first holy communion which she won't be participating in. It drives me spare. Religious education is a good thing but religious instruction has no place in school.

Grammar schools are either catholic or non-religion here.. Most are non-religious nowadays.
highschools are all non-religious with the exception that we have one hour of "religion" as course every week. Most people are catholic, although I believe that most people are more of the "I believe there is something" than die hard christian. Islam is growing on the moment here.

Private schools (considered better education) are all religious based which i feel is wrong. Public schools are all fundamentally christian with priests visiting regularly and forcing us to sit through something a lot of people would rather not hear.
There are occasional islamic schools but theyre often very small and also privately funded. The joys of living in Queensland Australia, you cant escape religious preaching even in public schools. |
