Default Christians:Do you Believe because of a fear of Hell?
That topic about "hell Rooms" has brought this question to my mind.

This Church is trying to let children know about hell, or their perception of Hell. In reality, all it does is scare them. It may even cause them to say they believe or believe just because they don't want to go to hell.

I personally, as some of you know, don't believe in a literal hell-- instead I believe in cutting yourself off from God. I also don't believe children under a certain age are able to cut themselves off from God and also for people with the minds of children and so on.

My question is: Do you believe in God just so you can escape hell? Or do you believe in God because you truly love Him?

Nope. Didn't believe in literal burning hell when I was raised a Christian. Didn't believe it when I was not a Christian. Don't believe now that I am again Christian.

Christianity has been passing around the Hell concept since it was founded.
I no more believe in hell than I believe in Eden as a place.
the best I can do is believe in being divorced from the spirit of God.
And that is something we can chose to do not something God wishes on us.

I think that hell can be thought of as distance from God, distance from Love, alienation from each other.

Initially when I became a Christian it was because I was scared of hell, I was 16 at the time. Then of course over time I came to believe God loved me and me him. However, now I don't think there is a literal hell.

I'm surprised you're Baptist and your church doesn't teach about a literal hell, Christine? Or, is it that you don't believe on your own?

That is my own personal belief. I guess I am not 100% Baptist.
