let me ask you this way: everyone can tell lie. it is up to person. if one is honest then would he become a liar by eating a different fruit and being junked some chemical? do you think that desicion one made between telling the truth and telling a lie depends on his chemicals? how do you define freewill? what do you think freewill stands for?

See I think this paragraph sums up exactly why promises of an afterlife cheapen life. If your analogy is correct then every atheist should be evil because they don't think their is an afterlife, well that isn't true so that throws your entire argument of needing promise of an afterlife to be a good person when alive in the bin.
See an afterlive trys to cheapen the value of your life, by trying to bribe and blackmail you into being a good person.

you remind me of someone i know with this angle of seeing. it is not black mail. it is warning. it is like to say "donot touch the fire, it burns" it is not like to say "i am gonna burn you if you touch the fire." there is a difference between. fire doesnot burn you just because you touch it. it just burns, that's all. to say "donot touch" is just a warning, letting you know that it burns, trying to keep you away from pain. truely not even close to blackmail. it is for your own personal interest.

i can't see why you think i need a promise. it is a warning to let people know about it. if there was no warning then the choise we made would mean nothing. we all have to accept the consequences. that is about being responsible. if there was no warning then one could say "i never heard of after life" if you didnot hear about it how could be responsible of your choice? you couldnot because there would not be a choice. now there is.

I am a purely physical being. Everything about me is physical. My personality is hard wired in my brain, that is why sometimes when people suffer suffer trauma to the head their personalties changes, because the configuration of our brain has changed.

Only from your angle, from the angle I see life religion is often used as a way to control people. They use the promise of the afterlife to blackmail people into trying to lead a good life. Of course we can never agree on this because of our different beliefs, so I guess the best I can do is understand and respect your beliefs.

Again I don't see it like that. The choices we make in our life are very important. I want to make a difference to this world, I would love to be able to help people but I do this of my own accord. I do not need someone to blackmail and bribe me into doing good, we are all capable of doing it on our own.
The above quote in bold is why I think an afterlife cheapens life, it makes life seems less important than it really is because when it comes down to it nothing is more important than life, except perhaps the life of someone you care deeply about.

my friend, that mechanism you mention works for two ways. if you do some research you'd see doctors say being optimistic is effective as much as medicines.
if one looks at people with hatred, he would also be looking at within himself (all of his organs) with hatred. if he looks with loving eyes he would be sending the same love to his organs.

body has a nature, it has a mechanism. those physical facts can't change. your body is your own tool. you are responsible of it. i mean, body needs water because of oxygen. if you drink 2 lts of water a day, you'd have its result. if you drink a bottle of jack daniels a day then you'd have result of it. it is your bsuiness to decide.

some people named crazy because they donot care about expectations of society. some people do care for that natural pressure that comes from society. even if we do some things, they choose not to because they know they would have reaction from public or their families. a brain damage could let it happen. people might become inside out.

there are certain diseases that makes people turn nto little kids again. my grandmother ahd oen of those. she was like a baby really. she was herself. but i can't say little kids are sane enough to be accepted by masses as an individuals.

i do understand why you think like this. because one relative of mine is similiar to you. life time on earth is very short comparing to eternity. what religion basicly says is this: "your life on earth is feild of your after life" which means the seeds you bury here would raise on the other side. that doensot cheapen life. on the contrary, it makes it even more important.
