I have never actually been persecuted personally, so I cannot really know what it is like. I have had racial slurs told to my face (I am half native American and the person called me the s word meant for Spanish and Mexicans) and I was really very upset by it. I can't imagine if something like this happened all the time, but I would not like it.
As I have said repeatedly, it doesn't matter if someone thinks what you do is a sin or not, they still have no right to harass you or hurt you in any way. I am very sorry that some people still choose to do this. All I can say that it is wrong according to my faith and I would never condone it.

I just don't think some other Christians realize how hurtful it is when they, for example, compare us to alcoholoics or child molestors.

You are right, I think that statement may have been rather insensitive. Racism bothers me on a high level and I forget that this kind of prejudice can feel just as bad. Prejudice seems to stem from the belief that one person is superior to another just because of race, lifestyle or whatever.
I was told when I became upset at the racial slur not to let it bother me. I tried but it still hurt.
Prejudice is always wrong, no matter what. If you are sexist, racist, or hate people because they are fat, and many other things, can and is the cause of much strife.

I'm not trying to be nasty, it's just being told to recognize that those who "pursecute" are in the wrong and maybe it will somehow magically help one's situation...

a) is pointless because it's relatively obvious pursecution and discrimination are wrong.

b) is lackadaisical and does nothing to address or confront the source of, repurcussions of, etc. pursecution and discrimination.

c) can ben seen as insulting to one's intellect.

Nah, you haven't offended me at all, so no worries.

It's just that I hear such remarks like that all the time (to just realize that they are in the wrong and such) that I feel it invalidates the feelings and experiences of those who have suffered from persecution, discrimination, and/or hate crimes that I tend to become immediately annoyed everytime it's suggested, hence the nasty appearance of my reply. I didn't mean anything personal in my response to you.
