Why should I believe in any man's version of who God is?

What makes one man's opinion (or a group of men's opinions) more believable than others?

And most importantly, why is a book thousands of years (the Christian bible) old still applicable today? Who says so?

Why should I believe these ancient words?

Applications can be found in the meaning behind the words, in the messages brought forward in mythic imagry and metaphoric language.

Well, we had a big long thread about whether belief is by choice, and a dozen different people answered and both 'belief' and 'choice' were defined in a dozen different ways, it seemed.

You shouldn't; figure it out for yourself. However, there have been many great teachers, and there's no need to reinvent the wheel.

Depends on which part you're asking about. The morality is laughably outdated (or depressingly, depending on your POV), but myth is timeless, expressing truths too deep for bald statements of mere fact. Plus, the poetry is lovely.
