As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.
- Carl Jung What does this quote mean to you in terms of "the purpose of life"? How does it relate to your religion's view on human purpose?

I can agree that, as Aristotle had said, "Man, by nature, desires knowledge". We are naturally curious. I suppose that asking philosophical and scientific questions could be one naturally appropriate purpose in life, though only one out of many. Quote:
Nothing, as far as I can tell. Human life is about far more than awareness and understanding. eudaimonia, Mark |

That Jung leaves a lot to be desired.

The centre of our being, the Solar Plexus, has the function to transform energy. We can transform the light into darkness, or we can transform the darkness into light; it is our choice really.

I interpret it as the building of relationships. Without relationships (associations, language--as Doppelganger would say) there is only a simultaneous understanding of everything and nothing. Creating an association creates light in darkness as it seperates form from formlessness.

Jung is informing us not to merely exist and struggle endlessly through life. Life has much to offer us. Kindle your light and drive back the darkness of ignorance, and evil. I agree with him - Enjoy Life!
I realize this is ironic coming from a guy named Darkness. ![]()
