Speaking of Moral and theological "indifference" disguising itself as "Supposed tolerance" GK Chesterton once said "Tolerance is a virtue for a man without convictions"! I have to agree with him wholeheartedly.

Me too, it's interesting how most of todays calls for unity seem to be on the basis that nothing really matters enough for us to be divided over and we should all just forget our differences.

So what you're saying is that people can't be devout in their faith and yet tolerate other faiths? Why do conviction and tolerance have to be mutually exclusive?

What is the alternative? Bigotry and prejudice?
Bigotry is the virtue of a man with no heart or soul. BTW, do you think there is a difference between tolerance and acceptance?

Why don't you just explain it instead since obviously I have no idea what you're trying to say.

Ok he is referring to the false idea that many people confuse true tolerance with indifference. And he says that this kind of Tolerance(Indifference in reality and not really true tolerance) is a virtue for a man without convitions. I have to agree with him 110% ![]() |

Tolerance is too weak to be meaningful.
Understanding is what is needed. That requires careful listening. Convictions are the opposite of listening. Convictions are the foolish certainty that traps the believer in a small, isolated world from where he spawns the disdain, fear and violence to fill in the spaces he sees between us.
