Knowledge of what? Fear?

Please refer me to where it appears in the Tao Te Ching, The Bhagavad Gita, or any other holy books from East Asia.

Certainly without that fear of punishment, people would have no motive to keep away from sin.

If there is no motive to keep away from a particular sin other than the fear of God, that sin certainly can't be all that bad.

It suppose it depends on how we respond. If fear brings out in me something that an alternative could not, how can that be bad? I know this is true in my own life, so I can relate to how my fear brought out some good that I very much doubt could have been done by thousands of hours of dialogue.
