Some are.... I would suggest that it may be our ignorance as Americans to what the faith of Christians actually is in this world.

The evangelical/fundamentalist "Christians" that seem to be at the forefront of the "Christian" bigots and hate mongers are largely a US invention and problem.... the rest of the Christian world does not preach hate/war etc (at least I know that the R.Catholic and E.Catholic churches don't) and that is the message I believe most of the world receives..... I hope!

Peace,

Thank you for saying that, Fyre. I think we tend to focus on the hypocrisy of Christians more than the hypocrisy in other religions because Chrisitanity is so wide-spread and visible; but the fact remains that there are hypocrites in probably every religion. It's not just a 'Christian' failing...

They`re not receiving it though Scott, especially recently.
The rest of the world fears our "Christian Nation".

I understand the difference between Christianity and Christian fundamentalism (even if sometimes it may seem I don`t but it`s the extemists who have the publics attention now.

Such is the way of extremism, I think it`s true that the media manipulates us by what they choose to say.

Those of us who aren`t Christian are scared now..truly scared.

Thats not the reaction people are supposed to have to Christianity is it?

I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'scared.' I'm not an extremist or fundamentalist, nor do I want to be, but even so, as a Christian, I can't deny that there are aspects of my faith that aren't exactly appealing. Who honestly enjoys confessing that they are sinful, or need to repent? I sure don't! But that's what my faith in Jesus requires of me. It's not always comfortable and happy, hunky-dory. Jesus showed amazing compassion and love to people, but, at the same time, also made a lot of people very, very uncomfortable. He said things that 'scared' and outraged people. I think the reaction to Christianity--with fundamentalism aside--all depends on the individual.

Hypocrisy is not limited to Christianity, or any other religion - it is a failing of all humanity. Who among us ....

Nope........ but that's one of the reasons many of us Christians post here. This forum is evidence that there are some Christians who I think all would love to see as the "norm" (Hope for instance)... and those who are not.

I do hope that someday your fear will go away.... I'll say a prayer for us!

Hope and SOG -

I often wonder how the Christians on this site feel about some of the posts by the members that I would classify as "militant right wing zealots" in the name of Christianity. I am not saying that you (or anyone else) must or should disagree with all of their posts, but some of them are pretty offensive.
I read the posts that you two (and several others of the Christian faith) put up, and I know that even if we do not agree on a given subject, there is still love in your hearts. It must pain you then, to see the name of Christianity used to spread some of this poison.
Make no mistake, I am certain that when you read some of my posts, it probably makes your skin crawl, but at least I do not besmirch the religion of Christianity by attaching that label to my views.

Take care,
TVOR

TVOR, it does pain me. Very, very much so. It's such a distortion of what true Christ-likeness ought to be. And the even sadder thing is, I personally know very few truly Christlike Christians myself. They are a scarcity these days....
