Happy yule (Earth, soul, hell, myth, pagans)

It's coming up to winter solstice and i wanted to wish everyone a happy yule!

made me laugh to be honest as it's funny how christians celebrate the birth of christ on yule!

thank you, i was shocked after that heavy reading! It makes me glad that i'm not religiously enclined in any way but reading like that makes me loose alot of respect for certain religions!

It's understandable. But from a Christians point of view, they were concerned for the pagans' souls, and didn't want to see them going to Hell. I don't agree with what happened, but it can't be changed now...

true whats doen can't be undone and i suppose its understandabe the soul saving thing but it's a bit harsh the way it was done. I guess it shows that spin goes back to the dark ages!

Not all of it was bad, like you mentioned how Pan was demonized? The Celtic Goddess Brigid was made into a Catholic Saint.

I know there are many other examples like this, but Brigid stands out in my mind the most.

wow i didn't know that, i've only gotten into paganism/wicca since being with my fiance as her mum is a wicca (yay it's going to be great when i can say legit that my mum in law is a witch lmao), it seems really appealing on the whole but i was surprised at how little was taught about it in religious education at school, i guess it might have upset some parents maybe? I went to a festival the summer just gone which was fun, the wicca man burning was a little overwhelming but it was fun after i got over the shock of naked people walking around freely lol.
It was strange though i've never been in such a relaxed place in my life where everyone got on!

How is it funny? It's just a date.

Yes, Christmas was chosen on that date because a Pope wanted the conversion process to be smoother and that's the day we have now.

We celebrate Christmas because it's the birth of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ, not because we want presents, or want to eradicate a Pagan holiday.
