Well, Yule is December 21 (depending on the calender) and Christmas is the 25th (obviously).

It wasn't done to decieve the Pagans, but substitute. Rather than say something like: "You're going to Hell, you Devil-worshipping Heathens! By the way, come to our church which we so happened to build on your sacred sites." It was more along the lines of: "You have a God being born in the wintertime? So do we!"

At least, that's my understanding...

true although researching on wiki there are some pagans/wiccas that converted from celebrating yule in the winter to the summer due to the christian thing. I'm sure my soon to be mother in law will like the fact that i've taken the time to look into the roots of paganism/wicca, it's really interesting!
