Pah is correct. I saw Dobson on Larry King a few nights ago and he referred to a section of the bible about it. He had all his little passages neatly lined up and FROM his viewpoint is sort of made an odd kind of sense.
Me? I am more inclined to view it as misguided hypgnosis or brain-washing. Apparently it is not a particulary fun process and the person under going the "treatment" is put under what is essentially an inquisition. Nice thinking.... NOT!

Sound bite religion...gotta love it. However, the problem with it is that there are other sound bites that balance it, and neither is a strong foundation.
This "curing" of gays has gone on a long time. There are even ministries specifically for it, however, fairly often, one of the cured figures out that there is nothing to be cured from and no cure for it anyway....they just HATE it when that happens, especially when it's one of the leaders! Exodus (later called Exodus International) was founded in 1976 by two homosexual men, Michael Bussee and Gary Cooper. Their ministry used the psychologically-founded method known as reparative therapy. And even though this ministry still exists (in fact has well over a hundred sub-ministries under it in the United States, alone, it should be known that the founders, themselves, failed in their attempts to become ex-gays and, after three years in the ministry, dropped out and became lovers. They claimed that rather than curing the homosexual individual, Exodus only succeeded in exacerbating members’ feelings of guilt and personal failure. A man by the name of Guy Charles, who founded "Liberation in Jesus Christ," has become a former ex-gay, as has Roger Grindstaff of "Disciples Only." There is a book called The Salvation Mongers that addresses this trend and the results of some of these efforts, including self loathing, suicide, etc. It is a most unfortunate use of Christianity!!!!! |

Is it me or does it sound like he's passing up the chance to save someone from eternal damnation? Hmm.
