[quote=carrdero]"Thou shalt have no other gods before me,"
If we are to believe that GOD is the first and the longest existing entity than the statement is TRUE-in that there is/was no Gods before him. If we take it as a commandment than yes it is a bit self serving. For even GOD K(NOW)s that we are all gods the only difference BEing the time we have existed as entites (spiritual as well as physical) and our PURPOSE/agenda. Carrdero: I do believe that in the context of the first commandment, "before me" does not mean "existed before me," but rather "be ranked higher than me."

I agree with Carrdero's take on the first commandment - to me, it clearly means that you should not worship any other God as being superior to the Judeo Christian God. Oddly, the idea of it meaning "no God existed prior to me" had never occured to me before. TVOR

Half the people I work with went to see him so I`ll be hearing about it tomorrow. I`m not sure this thread is necessary anymore. I think George pretty much covered it in a thorough analysis. ![]() |

Nascent Israel was monalatrous. Like its Syro-Palestinian neighbors, they viewed 'nations' as socio-political covenants, each associated with, dependent upon, and owing allegiance to a member of the 'Divine Council' of gods.
