When Jesus said, "follow me" did he mean
act as I do exclusively, or in addition
think as I think?
This question centres around the following definitions of
morality sourced from dictionary.com.
- The quality of being in accord with standards of right or good conduct.
- A system of ideas of right and wrong conduct: religious morality; Christian morality.
- Virtuous conduct.
- A rule or lesson in moral conduct.
If Jesus meant think and act as I do, then all apply. On the other hand if he mean't follow me in the sense of sheep following a shepard, 1 and 3 only apply. What is true of your practice of Christianity? Was the "system of ideas of right and wrong conduct" added by those who wrote the Bible in interpreting Jesus's actions? My own interpretation of Jesus is that he spoke very simply, in the form of follow me my sheep.
