Should religion ever be discussed? (beliefs, experience, faith, heaven)

Sometimes if you say a word too often it somehow diminishes it's meaning,
the same goes for ideas, if you have an idea of how something is, say heaven,
if you talk about it for a while your original idea of how it is for you is clouded and
you lose the idea completely, talking about it can do more damage than good.
I believe if a person is religious it is a personal thing, the things they believe or
don't believe are fixed in their head, they have a picture of how things are or how
they want things to be, talking about it can only confuse the issue,
it can be argued that talking about it helps to clarify things but I believe the
opposite is true, too much talk and too many ideas of how different people see
things can make a person lose their original idea, they end up with a mishmash
of ideas, their own and someone elses.

Talking can only do more damgae then good if you mean it that way and if you don't pay attention.

Confuse the issue? To you perhaps, but not to 'religious' people.

For some people this is true, but not for everyone. Had I not had the opportunity to discuss my faith with others I very much doubt that it would be as firm and clear as it is now. I can respect other people's beliefs but that doesn't necessarily mean that I will agree with them, let alone absorb them. I certainly don't believe that we should stop discussing religion and I do believe that such discussion helps people clarify their faith. I certainly don't believe that mine has been watered down in any way in the time I've been here - it's just had a bit of a wash.

i agree, because words are not an entire expression of an idea. When we get an idea, is the accumulation of different thoughts and experiences, that only WE know.

so, when you try to say something to somebody, it doesn't have the same intensity because the person cannot "feel it" as you did.

words are mundane, and certainly humans have to practice more ways to communicate beyond words...more with feelings. to me an idea is a feeling...

so do not put too much effort on communicating an idea thorughout words, rather, put it on practice, see how it goes, then you will comunicate your idea with the way you act.

discussion is half of the learning, is an essencial part, but not all. discussion and experience need to go together
