What do you guys think of this? Do you find it as disgusting as I do? The game in itself is enough to send chills down my spine, but to think that it might be marketed to Christians is just downright scary.

The article is completely false. The game exists, but it is NOT marketed through mega-churches OR associated with Rick Warren in any way.

He should sue.

I don't even really know who the author of the books is, but after reading up on his book series a little bit I am less than impressed with the message he is sending. Whether or not the game is being directly marketed in churches is irrelevant in my opinion. It appears that he is teaching a hateful worldview and I want absolutely nothing to do with it.

If Rick Warren is not associated with this guy, then I feel sorry that it happened to him.

This is what the site sparc linked to says:

The international director of Mr. Warren's Purpose Driven Church, Mark Carver, is a former investment banker who serves on the Advisory Board of the corporation created in October 2001 to develop and market this game. The creators plan to market their game using the same network marketing techniques that Mr. Warren used to turn The Purpose Driven Life into a commercial success. For example, they plan to distribute their merchandise through pastoral networks, especially mega-churches.


[Update: Mark Carver, a top aide to Mr. Warren, resigned as an adviser to Left Behind Games on June 5, 2006, and asked that the game developer remove the Purpose Driven Ministries name brand from its web site. These abrupt moves came in response to pressure from Talk to Action, as reported in the third essay in this series, "Revelation and Resignation (Part 3)". Here is a screen shot from the Left Behind Games site taken before June 5, showing Mr. Carver's name and invoking the name brand of Purpose Driven Church, which the site describes in some detail. -- JH]

Although Talk to Action did not claim that Mr. Warren himself had developed, distributed, or endorsed the game, it held him accountable for the use of the Purpose Driven name brand in the game's web-based marketing material, and asked whether his mega-church and global pastoral network planned to distribute the game. In response, Mr. Carver has requested that his name as well as the Purpose Driven name brand be removed from the Left Behind Games web site (which actions followed promptly), and Purpose Driven Ministries has promised not to distribute or promote the game. In its statement, Mr. Warren's organization criticized Talk to Action's approach, but did not rebut any of the facts or claims presented.

A check of the web archive (see here) confirms that Carver was formerly listed as a member of the Advisory Board of Left Behind Games.

I believe in this game you can try to convert non-christians, and failing that, kill them. You can also play as the antichrist I believe.

Not exactly endearing to Jesus, in my opinion.
