Default Possible to be happy without God?

Do you think it's possible to be happy without God? If not, why, and how do you explain happy atheists?

Personally, I don't think any god is needed for happiness. We were born with the capacity to be happy on our own, and we don't need some deity to press the on switch for us. Unless we think we need them to, anyway.

well, many people say that nothing besides spiritual or a God can give you happiness. only love, giving, and other positive stuff can envoke happy emotions, but some argue that it isnt complete with God. i say, that it is being complete with God, indirectly, that you dont need to pronounce your feelings of action as the result of God, rather of your spirituality and good will, indirectly the force of God. ya.

I think true happiness is the acceptance of what is. I also believe that the Eternal is within us. Therefore we are never without it. Unhappiness is trying to fight that and what is.

I think it is entirely possible to be happy without any concept of god, although I'm not sure if it's something I (personally) would be able to be happy without. Although my views on Diety have changed throughout my lifetime, there's something within my soul that cries out for divine love. I don't think every person feels this need, though, and I wouldn't try to dismiss those that don't as not being truly happy.

I am happier as an atheist than I was when I was struggling with illogical religious concepts.

A number of my relatives claim to be "born again Christians," and they appear to be rather unhappy--too busy looking for and criticizing "sinners."

As for loving and giving, atheists are as capable of those activities as religious people.

Yes I am. But not because I am not happy and at peace with my atheism. I simply enjoy the intellectual exercize of debating--especially when it involves an interesting subject such as religion. I try to keep my mind open, and welcome the opinions of others.

PEACE to all--religious or nonreligious.

Funny thing Jensa - I would say that many Atheists and Agnostics (like Retrorich) would view the question from the other side - Is it possible to be happy with God?

For me, I am tickled to death with my unending search for God - it is the very thing that draws me to forums like this. And like retro, I enjoy the debate for its own sake. Who knows when that next post might be the one that shows me the light - or let's God know that some of us down here are waiting for a sign.

If we can be happy on our own, then how come we are not all happy yet? And how come those who become happy continually fall down into despair?
If we need nothing but ourselves to be happy, then how come we seek happiness through external things?
