Read John 21:21-25

Because John is immortal, it is very likely that he would have made sure that The Gospel According to John is kept accurate. Therefore, it would be reasonable to assume that The Gospel According to John is the most accurate of the gospels. Do you agree or disagree?

Only those resurrected are immortal, John died! He is awaiting the resurrection as is Peter and Paul and Mary. LOL! Well, maybe the singers, TOO!

Perhaps "immortal" is not a good word for one still alive almost two centuries but the question remains as OfPeace asked.

John 21:22 Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me." 23Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?"

Having established by biblical reference John is "alive and well", let me make some comments as to the question.

John might well have no interest in "his" book. Books of the Bible were originally designated by the first words written in them. The Book of John was probably called "In the beginning was the Word"; Mark, "The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God". Names of aposles, saints and disciples were added to the book to lend authenticty to the book. Epistles were named for the recipient of the letter, Acts being an exception

Many scholars feel that none of the books in both Old and New Testaments were written by those to whom they are attributed by title.

Just what is to Peter, if John remained till He returned! The text doesn't establish John survived and is living today! He died, is dead, will remain dead until Yeshua returns.

Let me quote a bit of John 21:23

Yes Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but , If I will that he tarry till I come what is that to thee.

Hope that shows you, Jesus did not say that he wouldn't die, merely that IF Jesus didn't want him to die what would that be to you.

I don't understand how you interpret John 21:23 other than that who ever wrote the Book of John will be immortal. I interpret it as a clear message that he will stay living until the second coming of Christ. No one has formally acknowledged The Immortal's existence, because of what I think are prudent reasons; especially the reason of avoiding controversy. From my point of view, that makes the Book of John the most credible of the gospels, but does not necessarily discredit the rest.
