SW, nice quote. I like that. I also think you can admire others and remain humble yourself.
There are a few I'd like to be more like. |

Why do I need to expand my religion?! I believe that God is an unchanging god, and that his road is straight and narrow. I don't believe that all religion is equal. So why should I compromise what I think is the one true religion just for the sake of "expansion"?! It seems a little ... stupid.
Now, this is not to say that I hate what anybody else's religion is. It's not like I hate muslims for being muslim, or pagans for being pagan. Tolerance and "expansion" are two totally unrealated things, and one does not have to expand to be tolerant.

The only way I can expand MY religion is to learn all the truths of scripture and to love all whom I encounter despite differences we may have. I accept everyone and their faiths so there is not much room for expansion in that. I tend to be a little lacking in some areas of knowledge in my own faith that I'm currently working on though...I can't just spout off as to why I feel as I do sometimes when things are tense in dealing with unbelievers..this to me is unacceptable...thus I must study the scriptures to be able to point to specific verse that makes my feelings understood.
I can't have more empathy for another person than I have already...I sincerely care what is happening in the lives of all I meet...everyone in the world has value in life. If anyone feels I need to improve in anything I do hope you will pipe up and just say so because sometimes we are so closely involved in our lives we are blind to some things in ourselves. FTH, Very well put. When I 1st came to this forum, I thought I was a good Christian. But by learning and caring about other's beliefs showed me I had a lot to learn, and still do.

When I 1st came to this forum, I was against gay marriage. But I was wrong. I have learned that Jesus loves everybody and now know that gays have the same rights to happiness as anyone else. I left a Baptist church in part because of that. Look at the PA marriage thread. As far as I know, not one person from a denominational church signed that. Tolerance. Accepting God's love for all.

BTW, I actually added "Christian" because it bugs some people on these forums. How pathetic is that. ![]() I disagree that people who just put "Christian" are more tolerant and openminded. Some are. Some aren't. There are a couple of people who come to mind, but I'll just keep that to myself. |

Jonny, you know I think you are very open minded. I never said everyone. But as a whole. With exceptions to every rule. And it's just my opinion.

God may love everybody, but that doesn't mean he'll just overlook their sins.

Waht's wrong with being closed-minded? I have my opinions, and I have them for a reason. That's all there is to it. Sometimes, people start getting so open-minded that it's really detrimental. They don't know why they're open minded, but just start paying everything the respect that it really doesn't deserve. I think, if you're open minded and you know why, good for you. But if you're closed minded, and you know why, then that's fine too. At least you have logical reasons for being the way you are.
