The sun goes "up" and "down"
We have summer and winter We are born and die Do you think specific religions will fade away and new ones will be brought to light in the upcoming years?

To a degree. I don't think many religions fade away entirely... there's almost always someone who will follow it unless records of its existence have been erased.

Well, Rex, some anthropologists say that up to 100,000 religions have come and gone since the caves in France were painted thirty thousand years ago. It may be difficult to believe that today's religions will fade away, but I have to agree with you that "the sun rises and sets" and "life is followed by death": It's only a matter of time (albeit maybe a very long time) before today's religions have either perished or have changed so much from what we have today that we would hardly recognize them.

If the Mayan 12.21.2012 prophecies happen, religion will change greatly.

Some of the older traditions are fading, however, new age religions (such as Wicca) also draw on ancient principles, so who knows.
Personally, I foresee a large increase in athiesm and UU, whilst a decrease in Christianity/Islam/Judaism. In 10,000 years, I would be surprised if just one of our religions today remained.

Some do indeed die out. But as Jensa pointed out that others will pick it up and continue it. Another interesiting question is why do some last longer then others?

change is inevitable. all religions will die, and new ones will rise from the ashes.

Change is inevitable.
But for all to die out is not. If we were to return in 10,000 years we may be hard put to recognise any religions, but the vestiges may well be there. Bits of the anchient religions keep being noticed in modern day religions. Terry _____________________________________ Blessed are those who bring peace, they shall be children of God |

I think it's pretty likely that religions will fade as new ones or modernized versions come about, but considering the way some christians have been reacting to pressure to seperate their religion from goverment and public institutions, I'm willing to bet christianity won't fade into the background without some sort of struggle.
