Default Poseurs in your religion

All religions attracts their share of less than serious adherents, perhaps people who only hold whatever faith for two weeks or profess a religious belief just for their images sake. So, do you have any fun or annoying experiences to share? What manner of undevouted people does your belief system attract?

The long conversion process, amount of work involved, and requirement for all men to be circumcised tends to help ensure that most people who become Jewish are in it for the long haul.

If you're looking for a "trendy" or popular religion, there are better candidates, that are much easier to join, out there.

Hinduism is complicated, because there is also cultural Hinduism, not to mention a ridiculously wide assortment of beliefs. But yes, if someone says, "I'm a Hindu" but then goes on to say how they smoke dope, Ganesha is so cool, the tantric sex is the best part, I like steak (a certain Hollywood actor pulled this one) and all that non-traditional stuff, I'd personally reject them as 'real' Hindu, whatever the heck that means.

I had a fundamentalist christian roommate who would always tell people he used to be a devout atheist before he becamed saved. Once you dig for details you find out that "devout atheist" means he never missed church on sunday, participated in prayer groups, gave his money to the church, volunteered within the church, and went to summer bible camp. But, he hadn't officially asked Jesus into his life and he liked to smoke marijuana and drink beer so that made him an atheist.

Also, Kirk Cameron is a poser atheist, or at least used to be.

I wrote a story about one once. Its not about a poser so much as a pastor who lost his way.

The Reverend

It's not based on anyone real although the number of evangelicals it could represent is rather extensive.
