that is a fair point and could be said about many religions - look what has been done in the name of Christianity for example.

As for wrong thought though it seems that there is not much fear of retribution so people can act how they please to an extent.Many of the rich and corrupt where I live seem to feel their culture of impunity , greed and wealth is entitled to them from good deeds in past lives

Perhaps there just aren't enough rules in Buddhism to control people well enough on a societal level. Too much up to you type thought.

Anyway that is my view from having lived 2 in Buddhist countries for the past 6 years. (Thailand and Cambodia)

Of course on a personal and community level I think Buddhism is great and there are many aspects of it I try to adhere to.
