Are you referring to thas passage in Genesis 4? 14Behold, you have driven me today away from the ground, and from your face I shall be hidden. I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me." 15Then the LORD said to him, "Not so! If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." And the LORD put a mark on Cain, lest any who found him should attack him.
If so, I would have to say that no one can be certain. This text doesn't say, so it would be difficult to make an accurate guess.

Yes, no one knows what it was, or even if Cain was a real person. Genesis 1-11 treats pre-history. None of it is historically verifiable - no one was around to witness creation, and who could know what happened in the lives of the first human family? It is a theological reflection of the effects of sin upon the human race, not a historical account of an actual dude named Cain.

From the way it sounds, the whole reason that God marked cain was so that people who saw him would not kill him. I think there were plenty of people around to see the "first family", and that they would probably be angry enough to kill him. I think that is the reason why God gave him the mark. What do you think?

In Genesis 1 God created male and female of every thing including mankind
In Genesis 2 God made man and later woman and put them in Eden and with the breath of God they became a living soul Is this a recap ? I don't think so Quote:

You missed the point of my question. I do not want to debate the differences between the creation accounts.
You said, If I understood correctly, that the presence of more people at the time accounts for the difference between the two creation accounts. I am asking the question of how you arrived at that conclusion.

Genesis 4:15 And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. Being that this is O.T, I would guess this as being 'a recognizable trait'. I would not have thought it was a physical 'mark'.
