I just finished reading a masterpiece:
G. R. Potter, Zwingli (London: Cambridge, 1976). Potter's Zwingli is the best biography on Z available in English. It is very detailed, mostly balanced interpretation of the Swiss Reformer. It's not too repetitive, but easy to read cover to cover or by topic. Potter includes some sparse sentences to help modern readers understand the 16th century... I believe they are included in every chapter. His details concerning the various wars and politics in Switzerland between 1100 and 1600 are invaluable. Some of Z's writings are available in English by Samuel Macauley Jackson with excellent critical notes.

if i have time over the summer, i might invest in that! i studied Luther and the German Reformation, which included some of the interactions with Zwingli and the Swiss reformers, but i would have liked to look at those more closely!
does this book look at that at all?

Bruce Gordon's book does fill in some gaps - The Swiss Reformation. But it's intended to be read by its index. Reading cover to cover is laborious, it's riddled with repetition, but the references are excellent. That is, the references and citations are good, helping one quickly locate original sources, but the explanation is inferior to Potter in every way. Gordon's attention to detail is good, he's more sympathetic to Z, and I'll read it alongside Potter when I make citations.
