The Critical Edition of Q
For those of you interested in studies on Q, there has been a critical edition published recently. Its introduction presents an excellent review of Q scholarship from its inception to 2000. This book demonstates to me that Q scholarship is fairly messy - it is not a tidy group of sayings that scholars agree existed before the Gospels. Like many other things, scholars who are not Q experts - and even the experts themselves, use the term without precisely defining what they mean.
The critical edition of Q : synopsis including the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, Mark and Thomas with English, German, and French translations of Q and Thomas / edited by James M. Robinson, Paul Hoffmann, John S. Kloppenborg ; managing editor, Milton C. Moreland. Minneapolis, MN : Fortress Press ; Leuven : Peeters Publishers, c2000.
