when you read your sacred and holy texts, or the text which is the foundation of your beliefs/philosophy...what is the overall message that you get from it????
I was talking to Rachel today before Rosh HaShanah started for her and she brought up an interesting point about the Torah i never considered but i wholeheartedly agree with. The overall message of the Torah is, Teshuvah, repentance throughout the text Man screws up, is punished for their mistakes, repents and then they are forgiven...i thought this was an interesting perspective on Torah. so what is it for you and your text? What do you get out of it??

Repentence is the main message I get out of the scriptures, as well.

My religion doesn't have any specific holy texts. Allthough thier are alot of Druid and Nocturnalism books available. The book I am writing keeps taking on a type of holy text type of form, allthough I am trying to refrain from taking that route.

My religion, Dolorosa, doesn't keep scriptures but is rather based in an oral tradition. Since I myself am the founder of Dolorosa, this mostly consists of me talking to myself. However, there is written statement of belief called the Five Tenants of Faith. Whenever I read it, the overall message I get is this: either I'm completely crazy or I'm right. I don't know which one is more scary, to be honest...

When I read the Old Testament, I would have to agree with you...I think of repentence, obedience and God's awesome might. When I read the New Testament...I can't help but to think of God's awesome love and forgiveness.
