I do meditation at times. It helps to calm the mind and focus within, where God is. We seek his love within and when we find it we can share a deeper love with the world. Honestly, I prefer chanting though but I also love meditation.

I think its absolutely necessary but not necesarily in the way its practiced in eastern traditions. For me meditation is simply sitting in solitude. Nothing more nothing less. There are no special postures required and no dogma to believe. It is simply an inward focus of the self onto the divine. In the end it helps us to become more loving towards others.

I think meditation certainly has it's advantages and I would like to pursue the patience one needs to gain something from it. I'm still too antzy to benefit from it. My mind fidgets and wanders too much and I haven't given the practice enough time. I'd love to hear pointers on how to relax and let go. But, that's another thread I'm sure.

Buttercup, here's a link to a bunch of meditation sessions, and many of them are guided meditations.

I think that everyone should meditate. Maybe not in the way that usually comes to mind, with legs crossed and eyes closed, but I often meditate after a prayeror after reading scriptures to listen for answers. Just being quiet and being willing to listen is a big part of meditation. I guess it depends on what you are trying to accomplish during meditation, but to me I think that it is absolutley necessary to meditate and have time to really communicate with God.
