I agree that the government is inefficient and wasteful, and of course, some people fall through the cracks. I just don't think that's reason enough to say "Screw the government, we'll do it on our own".

I'm on SSI, and I get my stipend on time every month. What more should I expect?

I'm in HAP housing, and it's decently maintained, and the management is flexible when special circumstances arise. Again, should I ask for more?

I'm on the Oregon Health Plan, without which I couldn't afford the meds I need so desperately, much less my appointments. I also owe my son's life to this socialized medical program twice over. Sure, they've denied minor things, but I can't complain too much.

Social Security, etc. may not be perfect, but they do help a whole lot of people.



I'm also still waiting for someone to answer the question of whether "able-bodied" includes those with psych disabilities.

I`m in an upper middle class income bracket and I couldn`t afford health coverage for my family if I didn`t get it through work.

Also, I was under the impression that this "permanent welfare" you speak of was a thing of the past.

Welfare the way I see it today is a helping hand to get back on your feet.
The benefits do have limits and responsibilities attached to them.

I believe your making a 15 year old argument that is no longer valid.

Well, whether or not you like it is not the issue. If you don't like it, find a better government somewhere and live there. If you can't, then I guess you're stuck with this one, and you have to accept it whether or not you're "at ease".
