When this story broke, some people called in and said that while they didn't agree with in in most cases, it was ok in this case because it was a health insurance company. Uh...and that makes it ok to invade their private life? If the ACLU doesn't take this one on, I'm not sending them another penny.

Personally, I like to wear a little makeup, not so much because I feel I have anything to hide, but because I find it to be artistic. However, I do NOT agree with a policy that requires women to wear makeup. If a man can look professional with his hair trimmed and his nails clean, a woman can look professional with her hair brushed and her nails clean. A woman can look professional and even pretty without painted nails, curled hair, and lipstick.

Good point . There has to be a balance between employee's rights and the atomsphere that the company wants to protray . Lets face it , many businesses rely upon an image . { Hooters come to mind .... }

I guess it comes down to employer's rights vs employee's rights ? Discrimination ? Yes . But wouldn't it also be kinda silly to say that no business could have a dress code ? But I think that the company should be responsible for that dress code , not the employee .

Personally , I think that this goes too far as a dress code , but that is my opinion . I have a friend in Houston who is being told that she has to dye her hair to keep her job . She is platium blonde { dyed } and her super doesn't think it fits the company's image .... again , I think that is going too far .

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard! I wear a little makeup, I can't wear makeup on my face such as concealers and such they break me out. But to say wearing makeup is a feminine standard is obsurd. Many women do not wear makeup and are very beautiful. That's just nuts.

In 2000 Harrah's put into place a “Personal Best” policy that required female employees to wear their hair "teased, curled or styled," and wear "foundation/concealer and/or face powder, as well as blush and mascara," nail polish, and lipstick.

Ummm... yeah, they wouldn't have to fire me, I'd quit if that was expected of me. My hair does not tease or curl, and I do not own one piece of makeup, polish or lipstick. I just don't see the practicality of it.

I can 'go along with' a code of dress, but to start stipulating the wearing of make up...........hardly.
